The Inflammation Epidemic: What’s Causing It and How to Heal

Updated: Jul 26

Every day in my practice, I see patients struggling with symptoms they’ve come to accept as “normal”:

  • Fatigue

  • Brain fog

  • Joint pain

  • Digestive issues

  • Skin flare-ups

  • Weight that won’t budge

The common thread behind many of these symptoms? Chronic inflammation.

It’s silent. It’s systemic. And it’s sabotaging your health.

At Health Quest, we focus not on covering symptoms, but on uncovering causes. And inflammation is almost always part of the puzzle.

What Is Chronic Inflammation?

Inflammation is your body’s natural healing response. When you scrape your knee or catch a virus, your immune system sends white blood cells to fight and repair. That’s acute inflammation it’s a good thing.

Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is when the immune system stays activated long-term. It continues firing, even when there’s no injury or infection. Over time, this wears down tissues, disrupts hormones, and damages organs.

Think of it like a fire alarm that won’t shut off eventually, it damages the house it was supposed to protect.

What Causes Chronic Inflammation?

Several modern-day factors are driving the inflammation epidemic:

  • Highly processed foods (refined sugar, seed oils, artificial additives)

  • Hidden infections (like candida, H. pylori, or viruses)

  • Environmental toxins (plastics, pesticides, heavy metals)

  • Chronic stress (elevated cortisol disrupts the immune system)

  • Poor gut health (leaky gut allows toxins into the bloodstream)

  • Lack of movement or restorative sleep

These aren’t isolated they work together, compounding inflammation until the body starts to break down.

What Are the Signs?

You might have chronic inflammation if you experience:

  • Persistent fatigue

  • Achy joints or muscles

  • Bloating, gas, or irregular digestion

  • Skin issues like acne, eczema, or rashes

  • Anxiety, depression, or brain fog

  • Autoimmune symptoms

  • High CRP (C-reactive protein) or other inflammatory markers on labs

Often, people treat these symptoms one by one, never realizing that inflammation is the root.

How to Begin Healing Chronic Inflammation

Healing doesn’t require perfection it requires consistency and strategy. Here’s where to start:

1.Remove the Triggers

  • Cut out sugar, refined carbs, and inflammatory oils (canola, soybean, corn).

  • Avoid processed foods and chemical additives (like MSG).

  • Reduce exposure to plastics, pesticides, and synthetic body products.

2.Repair the Gut

  • Eat whole, colorful, fiber-rich foods.

  • Take probiotics and fermented foods (like sauerkraut and kefir).

  • Consider healing supplements like L-glutamine, zinc, and collagen.

3.Manage Stress with Intention

  • Breathe deeply. Meditate. Pray. Walk in nature.

  • Prioritize 7–9 hours of deep, consistent sleep.

  • Reduce emotional toxins including negative news and toxic environments.

4.Move Your Body Daily

  • Gentle movement helps flush out inflammatory waste.

  • Strength training and stretching reduce stiffness and support detox.

5.Support Detox Pathways

  • Stay hydrated with pure water.

  • Use dry brushing, sweating, or infrared sauna to help eliminate toxins.

  • Eat bitter greens, herbs, and cruciferous vegetables to support the liver.

You Can Cool the Fire

Chronic inflammation doesn’t go away overnight, but with the right tools, it can be reversed.

Your body is intelligent it wants to heal.

It just needs your support and alignment.
